MUN conferences are the crème de la crème of university fixtures. You’ll spend a weekend in a new city (or country) debating, partying and meeting new people from all over the world.

MUN teams (or ‘delegations’) will usually be about 7-10 members of KentMUN, with one or two ‘Head Delegates’ who are responsible for all the travel, logistics and training for the delegation. Once you sign up (forms can be found in the “conferences” section) and are confirmed as part of the delegation, you’ll be asked to help pay our collective costs - this will include your travel, accommodation and conference fees. After that, your team will hold weekly training sections to prepare for the conference.

At the conference, you’ll have an assigned committee (e.g. UN Security Council) and you and approximately 15-25 other delegates will be tasked with coming up with a resolution on a given topic in international politics, often a point of ongoing conflict. Delegates debate, negotiate and come with a document with the committee’s thoughts on and responses to the issue - which must pass the committee by a vote. The goal? To improve your public speaking, your negotiation and business-interpersonal skills, all while becoming an expert on the most pressing issues in the international political sphere.

Beginners: All our conferences are open to members of all abilities, so don’t worry about applying if you aren’t sure what’s what; our sessions are there to help beginners get the hang of MUN. Additionally, we created a page with helpful resources for you to get familiar with different aspects of MUN. We’re here to get you travelling, debating, learning, partying, all while filling up your CV!

CVs: MUN activities are a great way to fill up your CV or resume. Especially if you decide to try chairing (see: “chairing” section) or win some awards. Awards are given out at the end of conferences to those delegates who display exceptional public speaking, negotiation and diplomacy skills.  For those who are competitive, we always invite questions to senior members and the committee about how to improve your MUN skills.

Kent also hosts two of its own conferences, KentMUN, which will be held in late January and CanterburyMUN for high-school students in March.
