FAQ

(frequently asked questions)

Do I need MUN experience to take part in Canterbury MUN ?

No, it is not compulsory to have attended MUNs before Canterbury MUN. Just come as you are ! Each of our committees welcome delegates from different levels, so either you're a Beginner or a Confirmed delegate, you can apply !

How do I prepare for Canterbury MUN ?

The best way to get yourself ready for the conference is to learn the rules of procedure and study the topic of your committee ! To help you, our chairs have designed Study Guides that can give you basic resources on the topic and orientate your research. They are available on the "Committee" page of the website.

What is a Position Paper ?

In order to prepare for the conference, you also need to prepare a Position Paper. It is a written report of the position of your country on the topic. It will help you in the conference, but also help your fellow delegates to know your stance. To help you write it, we have displayed a sample Position Paper on the website (see Preparation).

What are the Rules of Procedure and where do I find them ?

The Rules of Procedure are the rules you need to know in order to understand the process of Canterbury MUN and the role you will have in it as delegate. They can be a little different from one conference to another and from one committee to another, so make sure you read the right Rules of Procedure document we displayed on our Canterbury MUN website (see Preparation).

Is there a dress code in conference ?

Yes, for the conference, you will be asked to dress smartly, as if you were a UN diplomat ! This applies to both delegates and staff. Outside of session time, you can dress however you wish to.
